-The Painted Veil Movie-

I was finally able to see the move The Painted Veil and I must say that I preferred the book only because the movie strayed from the vision of the author. Aside from that if saw the movie as a different experience from the book it was wonderfully made and acted.

The problem was that in the movie it didn't represent the same meaning of the story. I would go more in detail but if you haven't seen the movie I may just spoil it for you. Point is that it was a great movie, but it gave into slightly to what the viewer wanted to see instead of what should have been seen. In the book, the author tells you- "Look this is what happens... don't like it tough luck"- it also treats (as I've said before) as an intelligent human being and well I guess that's what I liked most about, among other things :).

The Painted Veil

I must say that I found the book extremely interesting. But I can't lie and say that I even liked Kitty Fane, although in the end I felt a kind of sadness for her and pity mostly. On the other hand I felt myself connecting with Walter Fane and somehow adoring him for different reasons, for example, his intelligence and self control. Although through out the whole story I felt like there was a reason why he was so closed and I always felt the desire to know more about him and know what made him tick.
I must say that I loved the writing style and technique of W. Somerset Maugham. I actually felt like I was being treated like an intelligent reader and making me use my brain, which I find rare with most authors.
I am dying to see the movie and watch another's interpretation of this magnificent piece of art.
